These fleas are the most common in Florida. They measure up to 16mm and are a reddish-brown color. Their total life cycle can be between 2 months and 2 years, depending on the activity and availability of hosts. The population tends to peak in August. The fecal matter of this flea is a small black ball, but when added to water, turns into a blood red liquid.
