The larvae of this tick are also known as the "seed tick" as they resemble strawberry seeds. The adults are 3 to 4mm in length with 8 legs. Their color is reddish brown with black flecks, and the females have a white spot on their back. The adult Lone Star tick can survive 8 months to 2 years without a blood meal and are active whenever the temperature is over 40 degrees. These ticks can carry ehrlichiosis.
