The coloration of the Brown Widow Spider consists of a mottling of tan and brown with a dark brown or black accent. The females have one long and 3 diagonal stripes across the abdomen. The Brown Widow does have an hourglass shape on the abdomen, but it is orange-ish in color. With legs extended, they measure ½ to ¾ of an inch. Brown Widow Spiders do not have a particular habitat, rather they are opportunistic web builders, using handrails, mail boxes, even patio furniture to build their nests. Their bite does contain venom and medical assistance is strongly encouraged if a bite occurs.
